Kyran meandered into The Loop, the familiar streets and sights barely registering in his mind. He had gotten so used to the neighborhood that he was sure he could walk it blindfolded. Once again, he had gotten pissed at his Bio teacher, she had tried to send him to the principal's office, but the boy had taken a detour and wandered straight out the doors. Occasionally, the security guard caught him and sent him back to where he was supposed to be, but thankfully, the guard was off somewhere else today. He was probably busy sending some other delinquent kid back to where he needed to be. Frankly, Kyran didn't care. He was just glad he could get out without being stopped. As he walked, he pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it up. He took a long drag on it, almost instantly feeling better. Yeah, he had heard all the crap about smoking causing lung cancer and all that other shit, but he couldn't have cared less. Having the tiny rolled tube between his lips just gave him something else to focus on. It took his mind off of everything else. It was a bit like drinking. That also took his mind off of things, but that also usually resulted in him doing something stupid. He never really thought of the acts as stupid, but the cops and his parents did. That was probably why he didn't go home too often anymore... His parents had been all hands-on when he was little, then they had focused on themselves for a few years, but after the cops had brought him home a few times, they tried to be more parent-like. Sadly, it wasn't working too well for them.
Rolling his eyes at the thoughts, Kyran kicked an empty soda can on the sidewalk. It clattered off, the aluminum making the hollow sound it does when it rolls across a rough surface. The Loop was by far Kyran's favorite place to escape to, but it was never much fun alone. It was always better with another person. God only knew where Avery was at the moment, but Kyran could at least try to get the boy out there with him. Whipping out his cell phone, he punched the speed dial button and waited for the phone's answering machine to pick up. It seemed like Avery never answered when Kyran called. Granted, Kyran didn't exactly call at the best times. The phone beeped, and Kyran removed the cigarette from his mouth in order to leave a message. "Dude, I'm in The Loop," he said. "Get your ass down here. Yeah, it's early, but who cares? We can go wrestle the cats in the back alleyways or something. Just come down here. Bring a friend or something. I'm bored as fuck." Kyran clicked off, knowing Avery would either call back, text, or show up. The two had their usual meeting spot across from one of the easier clubs to get into. If Avery didn't show in an hour, Kyran knew that was the clue that he wasn't going to come.
In the meantime, Kyran wandered over to one of the coffee shops. He wasn't a fan of all the frilly drinks, he would have preferred something a little stronger, but he figured he could settle for some black coffee for now. The boy got his drink, then headed out. At this time of the day, nobody would really notice or care that he was hanging around the club entrance. Everybody was far too busy with getting to work or wherever else they needed to go.
